I have been lucky to continue to work with great teachers in the Hudson Valley Writing Project. Marc and Dennis took up a new challenge during the summer and documented our Young Writers’ Programs and there were more than ever before. But when it came to creating videos the challenge intensified and we met together a few times to get this part of the project completed.
Here’s a piece that Dennis began and I stepped in for the finishing touches.
Hope you enjoy. We are presenting this work during a workshop at our February Saturday Seminar on Saturday…
and then I get to pack for Puerto Rico. I am ready for outdoor swimming with a new Miracle suit :), a cap and cover.
I have continued to love and feel the ache of swimming. New parts of my body are challenged by new passion. Today I took them all through an aqua class. What fun!
So here I am with so much to feel good about even with this insanely cold weather. I’m hoping to meet up with Tara Smith tomorrow and her 6th graders 🙂
Wow! You have a lot to be happy about. I’m a little jealous about your trip. I hope you have a wonderful time. (I know you will).
Pics to follow next SOLT.
It was great to hear about writing in the students’ own words in the video. And how about that shark story!!
I thought that was a perfect ending 🙂
Cute swimsuit and cap! What a great thing to look forward to. I love hearing about your new passion!
Ha, it will take some getting used to but you’re right it will protect my hair color. I am loving the pool. Can’t wait for outdoor swimming in Puerto Rico next week. Tuvia is blown away by this. He always got such push back from me about swimming that he just gave up.
Hey, nice new bathing suit for those warm waters, friend! But I’d “forget” to pack that swim cap if I were you…:)
Ha, Tuvia loves it.
Love the “I am a writer ” t -shirt. Have a great trip.
Our writing project came up with them. I have the adult version.
I just participated in my local Summer Institute this past summer, and it was such an incredible experience. From your video, I can see that your young writers had a very similar experience: empowering, inspiring, and delightful. The “I am a writer” shirt says it all! (Did you make those or buy them somewhere? I’d love to give some to my students!)
Have fun in Puerto Rico! I recently got a new student from there!
It’s an amazing model. Too bad Washington doesn’t get it.
You are living a dream, enjoy!
I’m watching a fresh coating of snow fall right now at 4:30 AM. Enough already! I just don’t want to have to deal with it when we have to get to the airport 🙂
I think I’d love to have our students have “I am a writer” t-shirt-wow. The video is wonderful, love seeing those young kids loving to write-enjoying every word! And-your trip-awesome of course. Send us a ‘cyber’ postcard, please!
Thanks Linda. Interesting collaboration this time. Can’t wait to get going on Monday. Postcard is coming…
The video makes me want to be a part of the HVWP – that was great! And the swimming makes me breathe deeply on this cold winter’s night. So much to celebrate!
Even without much money we are still in business. Yes, so much to feel good about.
You are turning into a mermaid. 🙂
This swimming experience blows me away 🙂
The video was wonderful – such a great celebration of student writers. Hmmm – I think we need to create a t-shirt for our March SOL. I thought the pic of the swimming gear was just a celebration of your new found passion, until I read the words. Savor the warmth and waters of Puerto Rico – we’ll be waiting for our cyber postcard.
Those CROCS sure look comfy! Perfect to slip into after a long swim into the pool. (I always find getting out of the water to be the biggest drag on my body!)
