I’ll be back on the road this week, on a road trip with my Hudson Valley Writing Project buddy, Jackie Denu. We are a small team this year. From teams of teachers throughout New York State and the rest of the US our HVWP team is down to two and just two more for the rest of New York .
This last week of March is traditionally a week of advocacy for many other organizations and I’m waiting on bated breath to hear from Schumer’s office and one of our local congressmen as well. I understand, everyone is out looking for support and given our crazy Congress, there is very little funding for essential programs.
But we will continue on, racing from one appointment to the next, sharing our work, even if we don’t have a classroom teacher on the team this year. Snow did get in our way but it’s harder to have teachers with us given the school climate as you know first hand.
It’s a tragic time for public education and I want to believe that things will get better, hey Diane Ravich just keynoted at the Teacher’s College Reunion and her message was emphatic – OPT OU T of THE TEST and THE COMMON CORE!
I’m taking her with me to DC, carrying her along in my pocket.
Good luck. Sounds like a busy week. I hope you accomplish whatever you set out to do! Love the pictures!
Thanks Dana. We need lots of good luck!
Literacy is a bi-partisan concern AND you have amazing stories to share about the hard work teachers do in ensuring students’ learning! GO TEAM : )
WE DO!!!!
I know you will be a voice for sanity. You go girl!
🙂
Well done, my friend. Diane said that she wrote her book as ammunition for those who care about education to fight back with. Glad she was with you in Washington.
Yay Bonnie!! Go get ’em. I hope your time there is very productive. I hope you’ll tell more about it.
Let your voice be heard!
