Last year, in early February, I was freaking out. We were scheduled for an early morning flight to Puerto Rico and no matter what channel I switched to the weather call was for early morning snow storm.
Tuvia remained cool and unmoved by the weathermen and me. He slept that night, I paced and sat by the living room picture window. Finally, by 5:45 we were both poised at the bottom of the staircase with our luggage and coats to meet our taxi driver. He arrived on time. It was snowing steadily and everything was already covered with white. As he began to back out of the driveway he confessed that this would be his first ride to the airport, in snow. Tuvia grabbed my hand, warning me to stay cool and not freak out the driver.
A silent scream!!!!
But as we moved from the back roads to the Garden State Parkway, blacktop all the way to the airport. Ahhh…. I even took a much needed snooze 🙂
But once we arrived it was clear that there could be a snow issue. We were still on track to leave at 9 but the run ways were covered with snow and it was coming down even harder now. We could be in jeopardy.
The entire passenger crowd congregated at the windows to watch and wait for a call to embark.
Tuvia remained cool. Not me, of course.
Finally we were called to our flight after a number of deicing efforts.
We were on, the doors locked, another deicing…We were moving to our runway, we were patiently waiting our turn… we were moving, racing to fly and off we went up into the blue skies never to look back, clearly knowing that we were probably the last flight to take off before the airport was closed.
Today I’m not freaking out because as good luck would have it, the snow alert is called for tomorrow afternoon-evening. We are scheduled for the same 9AM flight. All in the timing but my fingers are still crossed for extra luck.
Tomorrow morning we be walking on a beach in Cancun if everything goes well for us. It’s a roller coaster ride, planning a February beach trip but hey, it’s worth it, right?
Pictures to follow…
