Just before we left Cancun, on our last full day, I put on my bathing suit and took a plunge in the pool I’d been passing by every day before that last one.
I wanted to take a plunge but I just wasn’t ready to get back into the water until we were just about out of time. I spontaneously stopped, removed my bathing suit wear, removed my sandals and handed Tuvia my iPhone preparing it to document this moment. It was so easy, effortless as I plunged into familiar waters. So great actually to be submerged.
Today I took another plunge. Like my return to the water, I wondered if I was up for this plunge back into my PD work. Last night I prepped with my HVWP co-facilitator and spent time creating a bit of a powerpoint- actually, a Keynote a la Apple.
We were ready, my cameras were filled with prepped batteries and my car, waited with tank full for me to wake up and get out of the house this morning by 6:15 AM. Funny, it was a big deal back home even though we were up most mornings in Cancun to enjoy the sunrise.
At 6:15 I was in my car with almost enough sleep to drive up to Ellenville and arrive just before we would be presenting a day of PD beginning at 7:50.
It was a smooth ride up, Mary and I arrived around the same time, we were greeted by a welcoming principal and our first group was arriving in the conference room smiling.
And throughout the day that I had plunged back into I was happy to be back, plunging into warm waters. Like the plunge I took in Cancun, here, back at my own high school years ago, back at the high school where I began my teaching career, I plunged back into warm waters, but as happy as I was to be there, I was fading, wondering if I had the energy I needed to get back home.
I did but it was a struggle. It’s hard to be back and plunge into familiar waters of home. But it was worth it and tomorrow, I have my video to finish for Saturday. I’m hoping to remain in pjs for as long as I can.
Could be snow to watch. Could be fun.
But I miss the warm waters of Cancun.
Great analogy. I will be taking the plunge back to teaching on Mon. Being refreshes helps.
I love the metaphor for diving back into work as being live submerging yourself in warm waters!
At least the plunging is without a plunger–love the image of Cancun and love the positivity in your tone.
I love the analogy between getting into the water and getting into work. It really is a great one to share with our writers. They will GET THIS!
Great photo Tuvia! 🙂 Plunging back into work does have an energy all its own, however, it does take stamina. I felt your end of day tiredness, glad you were able to make it home. I’ve been in a school this week and by the second day, totally exhausted (sleeping by 8:30). Guess my stamina’s waning too.
