Letters to Tuvia #66 Happy Halloween T (11-1-15)

Morning T,

There’s lots to share this morning.  Sorry, I didn’t write yesterday but,  I was sitting quietly, waiting for my experiments in the crock pot to make magic and take over the house with delicious aromas.  I know that the minute you smelled those same aromas you would want to open the windows and get them out of the house and if you wanted to return, hey I would take the crock pot back down to the garage but under the circumstances I’m going to find a way to enjoy cooking again and maybe the crock pot is my way to move into a new life chapter.

Jenn has been continually encouraging me to cook more and eat out less.  That just didn’t fit with our life style but now, in this new world I’m searching for some way of making this transition a healthy one. So I  yesterday started cooking for the dinner I’m hosting tonight for Ron and Leora: ribs, chicken, veggies, potatoes-  all in the crock pot.

In the quiet of the house I found myself returning to  Shadow of the Wind. Julia’s rereading it too.  You never read it but I shared it with you.   In minutes, after I downloaded a copy to my Kindle I was back in Barcelona in 1945 with some of my absolute favorite characters.  I’ll keep you posted.  Actually I just finished Girl in the Spider’s Web, the recent Lisbet Salander novel- remember, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?  You read that series with me and this last one written by a successor author  filled giant shoes to bring us back to the world of Lisbet and Mikael  Yes, I’m sure you would have been reading it right with me. More to come, I’m sure.

I was hoping to be up in Ellenville for lunch with my dad, Margaret and Martin but I knew I was just too run down and had too much to do here.  I’m not sure I had the energy to ride up and down without you for company.  I know you would have pushed me if you could have. Sorry.  I think my dad understood.

Being quiet yesterday provided me with just enough energy  to meet Tara and Scott for a movie with your name all over it- Bridge of Spies, the latest Tom Hanks-Steven Spielberg collaboration.  A masterpiece!  Tom Hanks plays an insurance lawyer put in an unusual situation to rise to heroism in the cold war.  Perfect, right? I kept your seat warm just in case you wanted to join us.

We all loved the movie and missed your contributions in the discussion we had about it over dinner. Finally Tara and Scott took me to their favorite Tai restaurant but of course, if you were with us, we would have gladly opted for something else.  But you know, it was a great meal and great conversation.

That’s how I spent Halloween and even though I had some candy to share with kids, there was no time for that.  Not much selection for candy at Fairway so out it goes.

Dinner tonight back at my place. There’s always a seat for you T.  Always.

Love you with all my heart,

Bonnie S.

PS All clocks are correctly set to reflect the end to Day Lights Saving Time.  Fall Back/Spring Ahead. 🙂

And I’m off to Rockland to get the chicken cooking.

  1. It is healthier to eat at home, but more fun to eat with friends & family. Lovely that you’re cooking for company coming! I’m going to count on you for the movie reviews, Bonnie. This “Bridge of Spies” sounds good. Have a good Sunday.
