Morning T and Slicers,
It was a very cold night last night to be out in NYC. But we are die heart theater lovers so by late afternoon, with breaks of sunshine the snow disappeared from the roads and I was back in business- an almost traffic-free ride into the city, parking on the main level of the garage near to both the theater and the restaurant and by 5:30 I was sitting with James and his friend, Tammy sipping wine and ordering dinner.
All good so far. The Signature lobby was filled with theater people, all hopeful that it would be a great night of theater in the 4 houses all housed in this one renovated space. Speaking for two, there was nothing to recommend about the play we suffered through for the next 90 minutes- not the play, the acting, directing nothing, except a dance of two skeletons with strobe lights. That’s it.
Everybody, based on the ancient, Everyman with updates, would have been best left alone or reset into real people, modernizing the abstract- LOVE, DEATH into real people etc.. I couldn’t wait to get back out into the fresh air and start the conversation with James , dissecting- great conversation and hey, only $30 for the seat.
And the fun never stops- up early for coffee and English muffins, brunch at Strawberry Place at the counter to avoid the wait for a table… an afternoon movie at the , light dinner at the local French bistro and back at the Signature for another play tonight…
FINGERS CROSSED with Wakey, Wakey….
Bonnie S.
PS. You, Tuvia would have been out in the lobby after the first 20 minutes… waiting….
You would have been waiting in the lobby for me…
Yikes – but it sounds like a nice time with the exception of that play. Fingers crossed that today’s will be better.
At least the food and company were enjoyable. Maybe tonight’s show will be a gem.
Bummer about the play. 😦 I hope tonight’s venture will be better. The upside is you were able to spend time with a friend and enjoy a good meal.
Sorry that your experience wasn’t a positive one. I hope the next play will be better.
Your slice proved that disappointing theatre is better than no theatre at all with the right company! Thank you for the evocative slice!
