I Should Not Be Awake, But…:SOS#8 5/4/20

It’s 2:40 am and my usual mind-quieters are not working.  I’ve been sleeping but  I can’t stay asleep.  I have soft music, I have go-to podcasts, I have International House Hunters on cable, I’ve been yoga breathing… but the humidity is working against sleep…so I give up and I’m writing myself to exhaustion…

There’s good reason to be up:

  1. It’s finally “summer” and there is that change of season to get used to-HUMIDITY! Hey, I might even change over my closets this weekend.

2. We are living, at least I am, still living in isolation… I might even meet up with friends tomorrow if it doesn’t rain for lunch- outside of course- we live the Cuomo’s “safe” state and we are planning a river walk…a gentle walk… my back is just coming back into its own…

3.We are living in a time of unique upheavel without a leader… no, there’s a “leader” but he wants to move us to a dark place and thank God it’s becoming increasingly clear that the majority of us don’t want to follow him into the abyss… but how do we get back to normal between now and next January when we can officially get rid of him?

4. I am torn…  I have been waititng for world protests against Trump and his policies and now that we have arrived, I can’t participate and I shiver as I watch protesters packed in so closely.  I am torn.  I welcome them and I worry… I just watched Rachel Maddow sharing charts of Covid spiking just as Trump is moving on and away from supporting science now… not even giving it lip service.

5. But here’s what keeps me anchored: Finally Mad Dog Mattis spoke out.  I do believe in Joe Biden and today Barack stepped up.  We have the momentum…

Big day ahead… grocery shopping.. adding some new plant-based recipes into my weekly meals, guitar lesson, our last Hudson Valley Writing Project Community Forum and by 6:30 I’ll be ready to try to sleep… I know, way too early…

And here we are… ac is on- kicking off a different seasion… and MSNBC is on the TV as we watch the memorial serivce for Geroge Floyd… we are all attending, mourning him, mourning the weakness of our own democracy…

I am sad… and am worreid.

  1. I am sad too. Feeling like the country, I thought I knew, is crumbling and falling into ruins in the hands of an incompetent. Will we be able to re-envision a new country? I hope so. I worry about the protesters and the virus becoming virulent again. Stay safe!

    • Sleep is the key. I can handle anything with a full night of sleep. I do love the romance of watching the sun rise with a great cup of coffee but even with naps after that it’s not high quality to deal with our day to day issues. We will see how it works with some AC.

  2. Yeah, when grocery shopping becomes the big deal!

    >>Finally Mad Dog Mattis spoke out. I do believe in Joe Biden and today Barack stepped up. We have the momentum…<< Oh, I hope so. I have wondered for over 3 years why there has been no one to confront this man's craziness. Are people really that afraid of his mean name-calling?

  3. What happens in US is reaching all over the world. It makes me worried too. I so hope that goodness and common sense will win and your country can turn towards a positive path. It made me smile when I read your gratitude list – seems that we have a similar method to cope with the wakefulness in the middle of the night.
